Oxytet-25 and Foul Brood Mix protects colonies from becoming infected with American Foul Brood and controls European Foul Brood, even when symptoms are present. In cases where the bees are resistant to oxytetracyline Tyaln® Soluble can be used.
Medivet offers three convenient methods of treating foulbrood diseases:
- Oxytet-25;
- Foul Brood Mix;
- Tylan® Soluble (product from Elanco Animal Health)
Oxytet-25 and Foul Brood Mix contain the powerful antibiotic oxytetracycline HCL. Oxytet-25 or Foul Brood Mix suppress American Foulbrood and control European Foulbrood without harming bees. If oxytetracycline is no longer effective to control the disease, tylosin tartrate is another option. All products should be used as directed.
Oxytet-25
- Use it with routine syrup feeding.
Mix with syrup the day of feeding and be protected from foulbrood for up to two weeks.
Foul Brood Mix
- Ready to use dusting foul brood treatment.
- Sprinkle Foul Brood Mix on the outer edges of the frames (top bars) to provide rapid treatment action.
- Use whenever syrup feedings are unnecessary or inconvenient.
Foul Brood Mix contains no starch or other additives that can result in digestive problems in bees.
Tylan® Soluble (Tylosin tartrate)
As an aid in the treatment of American Foul brood in honey bees .
- Mix with confectioners/powdered sugar and dust over the top bars of the brood chamber.
- Use only in honey bee colonies showing active signs of American Foulbrood disease.
